The Jamaica Teaching Council has partnered with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) to implement a teacher development program aimed at enhancing teachers' digital competencies.  The primary goal of this project is to assist Jamaica’s Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information  (MoESYI) in executing activities that further the Ministry’s national digital transformation strategy for education, particularly focusing on Goals 1 and 4, which aim to facilitate:

(i) The development of teachers' digital skills

(ii) The utilization of high-quality programs for young learners

The focus of this  teacher development initiative is not on teaching or introducing specific technologies but rather on facilitating discussions on the ISTE standards which provide a framework for using technology along with pedagogy to transform teaching and learning
